Just a few days ago in Berlin the Queen passed by the ' Berlin Aboriginal Solidarität Netzwerk' and saw calls to Treaty. There is a petition that will be presented to the Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Nations- in Malta in October- to generate support for the treaty debate in Australia. Though the Queen superimposed hear she viewed clearly the protest. see.g. image at https://scontent-mad1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xat1/v/t1.0-9/11390059_766488683468382_3107051940630912296_n.jpg?oh=880658fda6fbb4380256d8a1518bfc3f&oe=55EBEDCF
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09614773811624398461noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5468014569708366636.post-12144732891315017322015-06-25T21:10:45.239-07:002015-06-25T21:10:45.239-07:00Well said - history, and the truth of it, needs to...Well said - history, and the truth of it, needs to come to light before any foundations can be set because, like you said, they will crumble under the constant struggle of political power play!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07577024644033169767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5468014569708366636.post-62377284567640934062015-06-25T17:34:43.269-07:002015-06-25T17:34:43.269-07:00I think that might be the way to go, @moniquebond0...I think that might be the way to go, @moniquebond0 - I don't think we will ever get very far until we unpack all our history. One thing that stands in the way is that there are many influential Australians who forebears were part of the genocide in this country. As an instnace, Sir John Downer (South Australia) was one of the influential South Australians who approved the ethnic cleansing of Aboriginal people across the Northern Territory when it was part of South Australia. Sir John's descendant, Alexander Downer, is still influential in Australian politics, particularly in the Liberal party. My view is that these sort of people will work their utmost to bury their family's part in the bad news of this country. I don't know how this can be by-passed so that we can get on with "outing" ourselves. But I don't believe that a lot that is still going on will ever be resolved and therefore anything we try to do that is good and worthwhile will always be on shaky foundations that, in the end, may crumble in ways we find unpalatable.
Brigidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07862531789968068093noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5468014569708366636.post-75417563303304947182015-06-25T17:06:21.093-07:002015-06-25T17:06:21.093-07:00Thanks Christine, appreciate the solidarity from a...Thanks Christine, appreciate the solidarity from another sister. I find my views aren't popular either, but it doesn't make them any less true now does it! Stay strong and may common sense and justice prevail in the end! xAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07577024644033169767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5468014569708366636.post-44034060469823891572015-06-25T17:05:24.267-07:002015-06-25T17:05:24.267-07:00I agree that there needs to be education of the tr...I agree that there needs to be education of the true history of this nation. I have long advocated that there needs to be removal of religious teachings from public schools and an introduction of factual history lessons on Australia in conjunction with cultural lessons from Aboriginal elders. There needs to be a respect borne young otherwise no amount of progress will make any real social change.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07577024644033169767noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5468014569708366636.post-16778167547479970372015-06-25T16:05:24.774-07:002015-06-25T16:05:24.774-07:00Thank you Natalie. Like you, I like to make a decison based on information and not on expediency. Like you I am an Indigenous women and take issue with being shouted down because I am not make a populous point of view.
Thanks
ChristineAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17418516482525850732noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5468014569708366636.post-41816768957223984082015-06-25T11:23:25.626-07:002015-06-25T11:23:25.626-07:00I agree that we need a Treaty perhaps before that ...I agree that we need a Treaty perhaps before that we need to have something like the Truth and Reconciliation process they had in South Africa.
Most Australians are woefully ignorant of the true process of colonisation in Australia - untill they do know and understand that the country was brutally settled, against strong resistance from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the general Australian population will not be open to the idea of a Treaty,
As someone who came to Australia in the 1960s, I can see how strong the denial of the true history of Australia is, and how the passed history is an ongoing illness which will not be cured until people understand the past and negotiate a better future - probably through a Treaty.monique.bond0https://www.blogger.com/profile/14977264196905490058noreply@blogger.com
